1. W3 Total Cache – This is one of the best WordPress plugins that will increase your websites speed. It will load all your pages a lot faster and it will save static versions of your pages. It requires a lot less CPU usage when you are using this plugin.




2. Akismet – This plugin is very important when you own a website where it is possible to comment on pages or blog post. Akismet is standard installed in WordPress, but you will need to activate it by signing up and requesting an API Key on the website. Akismet is a plugin that will stop 99% of all spam on your blog or website.




3. Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin – When you aren’t listed very well in Google it is most likely that you are missing some SEO settings. It can be very frustrating when you are doing your best to make a website but you don’t get any visitors at all. This plugin will make it possible to improve the SEO of your website by adding General SEO settings, but also page analysis, advanced SEO and Social media.




4. WPTouch – When your theme isn’t supporting mobile devices it can be very hard to view your website on such a device. WPTouch creates a mobile version of your website instantly on installation. 5. WPLike2Get – When you own a blog or website where users download your files it is very important that you go viral and let more users download your content. With this free plugin you can do just that. It will lock certain content in your posts that will be unlocked when a user likes, tweets, follows or +1′s you. This way you can make your own website go viral in no-time!




6. AddThis – With Addthis you can promote all of your pages and posts on Social media. This plugin will add share buttons above and below all of your posts that will make it possible for readers of your website to share your page on Facebook, Twitter and over 330 other social networks.




7. WP DB backup – With this plugin it is possible to create an instant backup of your WordPress database. This way you will never lose content again when a random error occurs and deletes content. When this occurs you can simply enter your database and import the downloaded .sql file.




8. Facebook comments for WordPress – Who doesn’t own a Facebook account nowadays? With this simple plugin you can remove the original comments section and replace it with a Facebook comments section. This way users don’t need to make an account and less spam will occur on your website, commenting is also a lot quicker and it is a great way of promoting since it will update the commenters wall that he commented on your website.




9. Contact form 7 – When your theme doesn’t have a contact form template it can be hard to let users and visitors get in touch with you. When using Contact form 7 you can simply create a form and include it in a post or page. This will let users fill in the form so it will be much easier to get in touch with you.




10. Adsense Manager – When you want to earn money with your website using advertisements and you have an active Adsense account this is a great plugin. It will let you easily add and edit advertisements from Google Adsense on your websites.

“The first Version was released in February 2012 and had around 120 glyphs. Actually, the only reason why I designed it was that I myself needed a well-designed pictogram suite for my own projects. I also wanted a suite with a more illustrated style than the ones available out there. So I started with the 20-30 glyphs that I needed at the time — ending up with 120 glyphs. And since I already had done the work, it was an obvious choice to release them free to the Web design community we all are a part of. Let’s say it was my chance to give something back.

So now — 7 months and 83.000 downloads later — it was time for an update. During that time, many people asked for new glyphs that they felt should be a part of the suite. This, together with my own ever-expanding need for pictograms, has led to Entypo 2 with over 280 glyphs.

The update has brought:

• Over 150 new glyphs
• Improved design of many of the old icons
• A new social media extension
• Improved hinting

When selecting what social media services should go into the Entypo Social, it was important for me to include services from non-Western societies as well. That’s why Entypo is the first suite where you can find pictograms for QQ, Renren, Sina Weibo, Mixi and VK. And true to the phrase “carefully crafted” I haven’t just copy-pasted the logos of all services into the suite. I have actually redrawn most of them so they are optimized for a size of 20×20 pix at 72 dpi.

The hardest pictogram to draw was strangely enough the key glyph. It sounds pretty straightforward, but getting the perfect shape of a modern key that would go well with the rest of the suite took me quite some time.

My favorite pictogram is the trash can. It has a very distinct look to it and sets it apart from all other icon fonts. The trash can is also one of those pictograms that have depth. You might notice that Entypo is a mix of flat glyphs and ones with a bit of perspective.

Google wants to show the best results to their visitors. When the content shows up at multiple websites it is not efficient for searchers to click at all the links. That why Google “promotes” the websites with unique content with a higher rank than the websites that copy and paste parts of their content. The websites with duplicate content often show up at page 3 or lower and this prevents users from clicking because visitors of Google often don’t look at page 2 or lower. Most of the time the websites with the Unique content have more links than websites with duplicated content.

Google can also notice duplicate content on the same website. This can happen if you have a blog and use your full text on the homepage and on a post page. But this can also happen when your content is available trough other urls. This is a thing you should watch out for since you don’t want to de-rank your own website with originally unique content.

There is only one solution for this problem that a lot of webmasters have: Write your own content and use it only one time on one page of your website. Also you have to be carefully when copying small or large amount of text. When copying multiple content and pasting it in one page it will also get noticed as duplicate content.

Another great way of preventing duplicate content is by using url redirects. You can choose to redirect all duplicate pages with a 301 redirect to your subpages with the same content. Google recently created a new way of preventing this by usingtags in your head. This will only work when the content is on the same domain but is a great way of preventing duplicate content on your own website.

This will not affect your Pagerank and other relevant services.

How to create your own Responsive Webdesign

There are many tutorials on the internet where you can learn to create your own Responsive Webdesign. In this post i will learn you the very basics of creating your very own Responsive Webdesign, and i will add some online tutorials to other websites that will help you creating your own! The first thing what you will need to do is research how your website is going to look on mobile devices. You will need to have some things in mind before starting to build.

Research

How do you want your Mobile website to be seen? Here are some great tips before starting, since these are very important.

1. Navigation – Most websites have a couple of links in their navigation and a lot of websites have horizontal menu’s. This can be very hard to implement in your mobile style. The best thing you can do i create one big Dropdown menu, or (if you have a small amount of links) to create a small vertical menu.
2. Typography and Headings – When you have big titles for your pages it can look great on your computer, but when you want to look at these on a mobile device it probably wouldn’t look that good. Make sure your headings are bigger than your text but don’t make them too big. If your main website uses only big fonts, the best thing to do is to convert all of your normal text into smaller text for the mobile viewers.
3. Too much content – When your website contains a lot of information you may want to select some pieces that are not neccecary. When you view long texts on a mobile device, your page will only grow in length.

The basics

The best thing you can do is start start making a concept for your mobile layouts, how will the layout look and where will every element be placed. After this step you can simply design your mobile website in your favorite program. I still prefer Photoshop to design my Webdesigns, but other people will go for other free programs.

After this step it is time to pick a framework such as Foundation from Zurb. This website allows you to download the standard framework, or customize your own framework and build from that. They have a great documentation where is explained how to implement your mobile design into the framework and into your website.

The use of new techniques

If you want to give your website a fresh and modern look you can use the newest techniques and scripting languages to create stunning animations and effect. Html5 and Css3 are great examples of these new Options but there is a big downside… Learning these new languages. It is very important that you have enough knowledge about these languages before building your own website with it. If you start without some knowledge, it is possible that you get a lot of errors. We have some great Css3 tutorials if you want to start of with this one!

But overall these new techniques can give you the advantage of looking ‘new and refreshing’ compared to other designers. Also many of the new options can save you a lot of time! You can create gradients with Css3 and rounded corners, this can save you a great amount of time while developing your website.

Fill up those empty spaces

It is very important that your website has enough content for the visitor to look at. You should be able to notice it if your website is empty and boring, but what are you going to do with that? The best thing to do is to rearrange all of the website elements and make sure that there are no solid empty ones.

Something that is used a lot these days is the blurry background photo wich can be great for Portfolio websites. This method will replace your entire background with a blurry image, this will make your layouts a lot less boring and look like an adventure where the visitors are headed.
